Homecoming Duties: Šuica Addresses Croatian Diplomats in Zagreb

European Commissioner Dubravka Šuica delivered the opening address at Croatia’s annual conference of diplomatic representatives in Zagreb on 25 August. Speaking to an audience of Croatian ambassadors, consuls general, consuls, and military attachés, Šuica addressed current European Union developments alongside national priorities. She opened the speech by thanking Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman for convening the annual diplomatic gathering in the Croatian capital.

Annual diplomatic retreats offer EU Commissioners a direct line to national foreign service officers, providing a venue to translate broad European agendas into national foreign policy goals. For Croatia's diplomatic corps, balancing domestic strategic priorities with Brussels-mandated policies remains a permanent fixture of their work in overseas capitals and international organizations.

These domestic speaking engagements allow members of the Commission college to maintain visibility in their home member states while keeping national diplomats aligned with executive priorities in Brussels.
