The rules the desk works to, written down so readers can hold us to them.
Sourcing
Every article is built from identifiable, verifiable material: institutional documents, official communications, agendas, judgments, statistics, press conferences and established news organisations. The sources behind each piece are listed at the foot of the article so readers can check the original themselves.
Verification
A development is only covered once it has been detected in a real source. We do not publish speculation dressed as reporting, and we never invent a story, a quote or a detail to fill a slot. When something is unconfirmed, the article says so plainly.
AI assistance and human control
We use automated monitoring to watch institutional feeds continuously and AI assistance to draft and structure articles from the underlying source material. Nothing reaches readers unreviewed: every article passes editorial quality gates and human oversight before publication, and the desk is responsible for what is published.
Independence and neutrality
The Gazette is independent of any party, government, institution or political family. We do not campaign and we do not take sides. We report what happened, who argued for what, and what it changes.
Tone
Our register is plain, precise and dry. Wit is aimed at situations, procedures and institutional behaviour — never at individuals, never at communities, and never at all where a story involves death, war, disaster or human suffering. Those pieces are written straight.
Corrections
Errors are corrected as soon as they are established. Substantive corrections are made transparently rather than silently. Write to corrections@the-gazette.eu and include the article and the specific point in question.
Images
The Gazette does not publish AI-generated photorealistic images of real people or events. Where no properly licensed, genuinely relevant photograph is available, we publish text only.
Privacy and sources
Confidential sources are protected. We do not disclose identifying information about people who provide material to the desk.
